Steven D. BREWER

Author of LGBTQIA+ science fiction and fantasy stories. Science educator, biologist, technology guru, and award-winning author of Esperanto-language haiku, haibun, and prose. he/his Steven D. Brewer is, @author.sdbrewer at Facebook.

A Senior Lecturer II in the Biology Department at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.  Brewer currently teaches BIOLOGY312 (Writing in Biology) and serves as Presiding Officer of the Faculty Senate.

Founder of Straw Dog Writes for the Straw Dog Writers’ Guild, Brewer serves on the Program Committee and is a Full Science Fiction/Fantasy Writers Association (SFWA) member.

Brewer served as Director of the Biology Computer Resource Center from 1996-2020 and as Interim Director of the Information Technology Program in 2013. He developed and taught HONORS499CK/DK (Open Science Instrumentation and Data Collection) and supervised 44 undergraduate honors theses.

A past President of the Board of Directors of Amherst Media, Brewer was co-founder of Western Mass Linux/Unix Users, Western Mass Drupal Camp, Hack for Western Massachusetts, Makers at Amherst Media, and New England Regional Developers Summit.

Steven D. Brewer has published several science fiction and fantasy series and four books of haiku in Esperanto (several with English translation).

Currently he is writing speculative fiction for Water Dragon Publishing.
