A Senior Lecturer II in the Biology Department at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Brewer currently teaches: HONORS499CK/DK (Open Science Instrumentation and Data Collection) and BIOLOGY312 (Writing in Biology) and serves as Presiding Officer of the Faculty Senate.
Brewer served as Director of the Biology Computer Resource Center from 1996-2020 and as Interim Director of the Information Technology Program in 2013.
A past President of the Board of Directors of Amherst Media, Brewer was co-founder of Western Mass Linux/Unix Users, Western Mass Drupal Camp, Hack for Western Massachusetts, Makers at Amherst Media, and New England Regional Developers Summit.
Steven D. Brewer has published four books of haiku in Esperanto (several with English translation).
Currently he is writing speculative fiction for Water Dragon Publishing and Knight Writing Press.
